If you’re reading this, chances are that you’re considering the many paint protection options out there and wondering whether it’ll be worthy of your investment. As car enthusiasts ourselves, getting paint protection for your car will be worth it for so many reasons.

One of the reasons is that you get to protect your car’s paint against damage from the likes of stone chips, tree sap, corrosive bird droppings, and fading. However, note that paint protection cannot protect your car against severe damages like parking scuffs and dents.

Having said that, the purpose of getting a car paint protection is to keep your car’s original paint, shine, and gloss looking as new as possible, just as when it first came out of the showroom, for as long as possible.

In this article, we will share the most recommended car paint protection in Singapore along with the different types of paint protection.

Most Recommended Car Paint Protection in Singapore

Given the variety of car paint protection on the island, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the number of opinions you get on different types of car paint protection. That’s why we’re here to help, starting with the most recommended type of car paint protection – ceramic coating.

Marketed to many car enthusiasts as the best way to protect their car’s paint, ceramic coating is deemed the most ideal paint protection system for various car components, offering superior resistance against heat, abrasion, chemical, water, and impact.

Well, ceramic coating is silica-based which is commonly derived from quartz crystals and sand. When these inorganic compounds (in the form of viscous liquid) bond with your car’s paintwork, the ceramic coating will form a crystal-clear shell on the paintwork and become a semi-permanent sealant that lasts longer than any other car paint protection.

On a mineral hardness scale, ceramic coating can go up to 9H, which is similar to corundum – a rock-forming mineral that is widely known for its extreme hardness and sometimes found as beautiful transparent crystals in many different colours.

Although the coatings are semi-permanent, they last much longer than your conventional car wax. When it is properly applied and left to cure, the ceramic coating can create a permanent hydrophobic surface, making it more difficult for dirt, mud, and grime to stick onto your car’s paintwork. So, washing and rinsing your car will be so much easier.

Aside from the hydrophobic nature, adding a ceramic coat to your car’s paintwork will make your car look extremely shiny. Let’s say you’ve been driving your car through the rain, mud, and other contaminants in the past week. You can imagine all the dirt and grime that is stuck on the paintwork. All you have to do to restore its gleam is to wash and rinse your car. This eliminates the need to polish and/or wax your car.

Different Types of Car Paint Protection Explained

Aside from ceramic coating, there are many different types of car paint protection out there. Among the recommended car coatings in Singapore are Paint Protection Film (PPF), automotive waxes like carnauba wax, and synthetic paint sealants. Let’s dive deeper into each of these car paint protection.

Paint Protection Film

Also known as PPF, paint protection film is one of the most expensive paint protection available out there as the film can last up to 10 years under proper maintenance. This military-grade film, when applied to your car’s paintwork, offers superior protection against acidic contaminants and lowers the paint’s oxidation rate due to prolonged sun exposure.

Unfortunately, paint protection film can reduce the shine of your car’s paintwork and should only be applied by professionals as an untrained application can potentially damage the body of your car. If a section of the film is damaged, you will need to completely replace the entire film.

Automotive Waxes

Commonly referred to as hard hydrocarbon at room temperature, the waxes can originate from natural sources like carnauba or synthetic material like silicone. However, it is greatly affected by heat and water, making its lifespan rather short in Singapore’s hot and humid climate.

When compared to ceramic coating and PPF, automotive wax is by far the simplest and cheapest car coating option to give your car some shine. But at the same time, it quickens the damage to your car’s paintwork as the oily nature of car wax can attract a myriad of dust particles that stick on your car’s surface.

When you wash your car, these dust particles get swirled around, leaving tiny scratches on the paintwork. So you bring your car to a waxing professional, who uses electrical buffers to polish your car, leaving swirl marks that allow dust and acidic rain to damage your paintwork. Thus, increasing the oxidation rate of your paintwork.

Synthetic Paint Sealants

Different from the previous paint protection option, synthetic paint sealants offer a longer-lasting alternative to car wax as they can last from 6 to 10 months. What makes it different from car waxes is that synthetic paint sealants are made from man-made chemicals while waxes are made from organic base compounds.

For this reason, synthetic paint sealants are made with car paint protection in mind. They can include other base compounds like polymer and Teflon to increase the paint protection level and protect your car’s paintwork against corrosive contaminants like bird droppings.

On top of that, synthetic paint sealants, when applied to a properly prepped and clean paint surface, will give the car a shiny or glass-like appearance. This will help to reduce road grime from sticking.

So, it all comes back to our main question – which is the best car paint protection for your car? At this point, we’d say it depends on your lifestyle, preferences, and budgets before recommending any of our car paint protection products and services to you.
