Fact 1: Windshield wipers should not be spreading water around
If your wipers are spreading water around your windshield instead of removing it from view entirely, it means that they need to be replaced. This is usually an indicator that your wipers are worn and dirty. If you see that water is only being smeared in one direction, this could also mean that your blades are hard or is the wrong size for your windshield.
These problems can be solved easily by maintaining regular checks on your wipers and replacing them regularly.
Fact 2: Using your wipers less doesn’t mean it’ll wear out slower
Keeping your wipers dormant may seem like you’re prolonging its service life by reducing its usage. Fact 5: Intermittent settings are the way to go
Unsure if you should keep your wiper speed slow or fast? Apart from being in heavy rain, intermittent wiper settings should be kept in the event of light rain and drizzle. Constant, fast wiping dries out the windshield and causes blades to stick and squeak as the rubber drags across the screen. Further complicating matters is the fact that as your car speeds up and slows down, the amount of water hitting the windshield changes.
Some manufacturers have conquered this problem by providing intermittent wiper settings. Operating at timed intervals, intermittent wiping would not affect your visibility on the road as it sweeps across your screen occasionally.
